Dealing With Chatty Cats

by Kelly Modzelewski, Dog and Cat Writer
C Breeds   Some cats are very quiet, such as the Scottish Fold, and then there are the talkers, like the Siamese. Chatty cats will often seem to be conversing with you as they walk around the house or sit with you. This type of cat is likely to also view a phone call as a group experience - as soon as you start talking on the phone, they join in.There are a few things you can do to solve this problem. Ignoring your cat is not going to help - he'll just get louder to get your attention. Try petting your cat while your talking calms and quiets him. Playing with him distracts him, and feeding him works well too. Keep in mind, your solution depends partly on the nature of a call - a friend may find your howling feline funny but a business associate is less likely to agree.Kelly is a pet writer. She lives in the Boston area with her three pit bulls and one neurotic cat.
